Stuck in a moment
29 October 2009
I was checking out the UK's top 25 most popular songs, as reported to CCLI and noticed a disturbing trend... nearly every song in the list was at least 15 years old.
From reading what songs are most sung, it's quite clear that the UK church are still loving the songs from the 80s/90s. What's that about? Seriously, we're still singing Shine, Jesus, Shine so often that it's the 7th most popular song of the last year?
Song choice is often reflective of the wider values/attitudes of a church and by persisting to sing songs from a previous decade it suggests to me most of them don't like change. How can the church accept change on a higher level if they first can't accept it in the songs they sing?
