WorshipCentral in Bradford

31 October 2009

Had a great time last night at ALC as the WorshipCentral tour arrived in Bradford, for a night of worship and teaching.

Led by Tim Hughes, Ben Cantelon, Al Gordon & Nikki Fletcher, we burned through a whole bunch of their songs, both new and old.

Memorable moments include This Is Our God with a rap in the instrumental part of the bridge and a cover of the Mary Mary song Shackles.

Aside from that, I noticed an interesting stylistic difference between how we do things in transitions or the bookends of the set. Where we make heavy use of musical backing for any spoken moments on stage, they were the opposite with no musical backing for those moments.

I think it's a cultural, church culture that is, difference at work here but for me, those moments lacked atmosphere. It was like stepping back in time to a previous generation in church, one before we started this move to harness the power of music in a greater way.

Overall it was a great night with lots to think about in what we do at Xcel.
